The Assessment Terminal is an award-winning AIR app produced for Barclays Capital as part of their graduate assessment and recruitment process. In it candidates are tested on their response to a number of fictional problems and assignments delivered via 'email', 'instant message' and video within the terminal app over the course of a real day.

Alongside the assessment terminal is an integrated content management and candidate tracking application (below).
The assessment terminal records data and metrics that are read by the CMS so that the recruitment team can later analyse and grade the results to identify best candidates.

Each candidate is registered and photographed using a web cam and given a unique id so we can track them as they complete the assessment day. The recruitment team then have access to candidate responses and can assess them using a series of in-built questionnaires. The questionnaire data can be accessed in the form of charts and graphs

Fortunity is a game that helps pupils learn how to confront financial challenges in a fun and engaging way. After selecting one of eight avatars, and working in a group of up to four players on each machine, players take turns to roll virtual dice and move their character around the board. Just as in traditional board games each square may have an activity, item to purchase, bonus or penalty associated with it.

Each player is given a small amount of money at the start of the game and their spending decisions as they progress are reflected in their bank balance. On advanced levels the player acquires more accounts - savings and credit cards - and must juggle their money in the most appropriate way to stay financially solvent.

I built an isometric level editor that allowed the designers to work iteratively through the design of tiles and levels without having to interrupt the development team.

The game is architected on a PureMVC multicore framework which allowed us to load mini-games as modules within the same application domain and utilise a single event bus for the entire application.

The game was recognised at the 2010 IVCA awards where it was Highly Commended.

Potions is a novel 2D game of skill built in pure actionscript and using Box2D physics and Flint particle effects. In the game the player must accurately mix potions such as 'Cure for Boils' or 'Sleeping Draught' against the clock which they will later be able to use to cast spells elsewhere in the 'Pottermore' experience.

The player collects ingredients hidden arround the pottermore site. They must add precise amounts of each ingredient to one of the containers - pestle & mortar or cauldron - then crush or heat, stir and finally wave their wand to complete the concoction. The result is either a new potion for their inventory or a potentially catastrophic explosion losing house-points and possibly destroying their cauldron.

I lead a small team of flash developers within the larger project team which was run on agile principles, I undertook the analysis and design of the game liaising with the in-house UX architects, design team and .NET programmers.

Using Flint allowed us to treat every particle as an individually addressable object which gave us the scope to perform

Primitive Playground is a technical demo created to investigate some of the possibilities of Away3D 4.0 using the new rendering capabilities of Stage3D.

I believe that in the near future, as machines with capable graphics cards become prevalent, flash will be effectively repositioned in the market place to solely be used for browser-based 3D games using the spiffy Stage3D API while HTML5, CSS3 and javascript take flash's place as the medium of choice for both everyday page construction and non-3D animation.

While that day has not yet (quite) arrived I feel that now is the time to start getting prepared. This demo also attempts to answer a question I have seen asked on quite a few forums recently: is it possible to integrate Robotlegs and Away3D in order that each object in a 3D world can potentially be mediated by a RL mediator.

Funded by Arts Council England West Midlands Digital Content Development (DCD) Programme, REPwrite is an online playwriting resource that enables schools to teach playwriting and develop collaborative plays with participants anywhere in the world.

The system consists of three distinct tiers inter-operating to achieve it's functionality:

• A client gui which is a Flex front-end built on the puremvc framework
• A tcp socket which maintains an open stream for each client allowing real-time messaging
• A weborb for php remoting service which handles transactions between the client and a SQL database

I undertook analysis, technical design and coding of all three tiers.

The system allows users to participate in the collaborative playwriting process either as a member of only one group or, with sufficient privileges (think admins), to move from group to group.

The PSP version of Midnight Club launched in October 2008. I worked on the menu system and HUD displays using the PSP SDK and some proprietary command-line tools to convert Flash bytecode to something readable by the C++ game engine.

The bytecode interpreter that Rockstar had created in-house consisted of only a limited subset of the Actionscript language, I thought of it as Actionscript 0.5 because it was so limited: no functions; no classes; just if..else statements arrays and variables!
